The Democratic Party can help stop the climate catastrophe or not...

We are in a climate emergency.  If we and the whole world do not stop burning fossil fuels ASAP the climate catastrophe may be the end of civilization as we know it.

United Nations Warns of ‘Catastrophic Pathway’ With Current Climate Pledges

The United Nations Secretary General António Guterres said it shows “the world is on a catastrophic pathway.

Perhaps most starkly, the new report displayed the large gap between what the scientific consensus urges world leaders to do and what those leaders have been willing to do so far. Emissions of planet-warming gases are poised to grow by 16 percent during this decade compared with 2010 levels, even as the latest scientific research indicates that they need to decrease by at least a quarter by 2030 to avert the worst impacts of global warming.

World Meteorological Society Says Climate Catastrophe Could Be Coming Soon

The United States is #2 in emissions by country after China.

We know we have the green electricity technology (solar, wind, hydro, tidal, etc.) and we have a fast growing electrical mobility industry (planes, trains, automobiles, scooters, bikes, etc.)

What is needed is leadership that an American President can provide.

Certainly, the civilization saving technology has to be adopted by China and the rest of the planet. But if we do not lead with policies to stop burning fossil fuels (and any greenhouse gas emitting fuel), the rest of the world will not be motivated to do what they could since whatever they do will be futile.

The insane party of tRump is definitely part of the problem, starting with climate denialism.

But the main enemy we have is the  fossil fuel mafia;

Democrats call on oil companies to testify on climate disinformation

The committee called on top executives at ExxonMobil, BP, Chevron, Shell and lobbying groups American Petroleum Institute and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to testify before Congress next month.

The $350 billion/year (½ of the Pentagon budget)  bill is the first step in the right direction.

Congress Is Debating Its Biggest Climate Change Bill Ever. Here's What's At Stake

President Biden's ambitious climate change plan could soon become a reality if Democrats in Congress succeed in passing a $3.5 trillion budget package. But first Democrats, who are crafting the legislation without Republican support, must overcome powerful opposition, some of it within their own party.

This legislation would bring extraordinary changes to the country's energy sector. It would lead to huge reductions in the climate-warming greenhouse gases the U.S. emits and change the kind of car many Americans drive.

A key element is a $150 billion Clean Electricity Performance Program, or CEPP, that would pay utilities to switch from greenhouse gas-emitting electricity sources, such as coal and natural gas, to non-emitting sources such as wind, solar, hydropower and nuclear.

But…

This Powerful Democrat Linked to Fossil Fuels Will Craft the U.S. Climate Plan

Senator Joe Manchin is already a crucial swing vote in the Democrats’ sweeping budget bill. But he will also write the details of its climate change program.

...

But Mr. Manchin is also closely associated with the fossil fuel industry. His beloved West Virginia is second in coal and seventh in natural gas production among the 50 states. In the current election cycle, Mr. Manchin has received more campaign donations from the oil, coal and gas industries than any other senator, according to data compiled by OpenSecrets, a research organization that tracks political spending.

He profits personally from polluting industries: He owns stock valued at between $1 million and $5 million in Enersystems Inc., a coal brokerage firm which he founded in 1988. He gave control of the firm to his son, Joseph, after he was elected West Virginia secretary of state in 2000. Last year, Mr. Manchin made $491,949 in dividends from his Enersystems stock, according to his Senate financial disclosure report.

“It says something fascinating about our politics that we’re going to have a representative of fossil fuel interests crafting the policy that reduces our emissions from fossil fuels,” said Joseph Aldy, who helped craft former President Barack Obama’s climate change bill and now teaches at Harvard.

This is not just wrong, it’s putting the future of humankind in the hands of the fossil fuel mafia.  They have been flooding TV wit their ads lately.

Time for President Trump to step in and join forces with Bernie.
