When the water boils metaphorically we are past the point of no return and civilization as we know it ends.
We are in a race against time. When you are in a race it’s important to know where the finish line is.
The finish line is clearly ending the burning of fossil fuels and anything that puts greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
Carbon capture, “net zero”, carbon taxes, carbon offsets, biosequestration, planting trees, ending deforestation, regenerative agriculture, etc. are all good but they are like putting a Band-Aid on a bullet wound.
Fossil fuels are used for transportation, electricity generation and hoe and industrial heating (for example steel making). There are other sources of greenhouse gases like, animal and human farting which should not be ignored, but only constitute 25% of the annual emissions. And forget about biomass energy and biofuels, they put greenhouse gases in the atmosphere too.
So how do we get to the finish line?
1. All vehicles including cars, trucks, tractors, planes, ships, etc. with electric or green hydrogen propulsion.
2. All electricity from renewable sources including, solar, wind and tidal.
Other sources of energy may become useful down the line such as nuclear fusion. Forget about nuclear fission, it is not renewable energy because of nuclear waste and we don’t need more Chernobyls or Three Mile Islands or Fukushima regardless of what some in DC still say.
And then there is the politics of the situation we are in. Money in politics favor the fossil fuel mafia which still gets subsidies at the rate of US$ 11,000,000/minute, believe it or not. The Build Back Better was a necessary first step to start the end of the climate crisis but… Manchin. And GQP is owned by the fossil fuel mafia but so are many Dems.
I don’t have children. When I die I die. But for some reason, I care about what happens after that. If civilization survives and progresses, perhaps one day someone will travel backwards in time and tell me I helped by contributing somehow to stop the coming climate apocalypse.
One of the reasons I hang out here is because many Kossacks care about stopping the climate crisis and achieving a sustainable economy; Meteor Blades, Pakalolo, eeff and many others. One thought, perhaps I would visit the new frontpage design if there was a section on sustainability or even just the climate crisis.
We have been racing in the wrong direction for a long time per capita.
Hopefully our capitas have enough brain cells and willpower to do what it takes to win this race against time and save Earth for future generations.
